The Advantages and Safety Features of Waterfilled Barriers
Venture Plastics Distributors has been manufacturing safety products for the mining, construction and road industry for over 14 years. One of our products is the waterfilled barrier which comes in a range of different colours.
Whilst they sometimes look similar to the concrete filled barriers you see on the roads, they do not have the same purpose.
Concrete barriers are permanent installations that are meant to prevent vehicles from breaching them. They also have a slight slope at the bottom that helps to redirect the impacting vehicle’s wheels back to its original path. Concrete barriers are furthermore too heavy for construction and temporary road works sites.
Waterfilled barriers are lighter than concrete barriers and have an interlocking system that allows them to form an uninterrupted wall. They are mainly used as traffic delineators and redirectors only, warning motorists of roadwork hazards and of equipment and workers busy with road construction. Due to their lightweight design and because of their high visibility, these barriers are suitable for temporary applications such as closing off a particular section to vehicle traffic.
General Applications of Waterfilled Barriers:
- To act as a diversion delineator on the offramps of highways.
- As temporary boundaries on traffic lanes and for traffic control.
- To create temporary pedestrian or cycle lanes.
- To warn motorists against a potential hazard or obstruction in their path.
- As an alternative to drums filled with sand or water.
- As crowd control measures at sporting and music events.
- To indicate to motorists that there is a high-risk area on their path.
Specifications:
- Waterfilled barriers are made extra-strong UV-stabilised LLDPE to ensure longevity of the product even in the harsh South African climate.
- The design allows for easy transportation and deployment and, once the barriers are filled on site with water, they are sturdy, forming a stable, linked wall.
- The water or sand in the barrier provides it with the necessary weight and stability, making the barriers very stable, even in very windy areas, as the water or sand in them weighs them down securely and prevents them from moving easily.
- Once filled, the water-based barriers are heavy and extremely sturdy. These barriers are thus not easy to move out of place.
- Our barriers are available in a range of bright colours, which make them extremely visible, even at night.
